Fifth Annual Giving is Gorges 24-hr Fundraising Event for Tompkins County Nonprofits Kicks Off on June 12, 2019

The fifth annual Giving is Gorges, a 24-hour online fundraising give-a-thon supporting Tompkins County, will rally local nonprofits and their donors beginning at midnight on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. The goal of Giving is Gorges is to unite community members around important causes, provide support to local nonprofit organizations, and celebrate the spirit of philanthropy in Tompkins County and surrounding areas. This year, Giving is Gorges will be hosting a live kick-off event in Press Bay Alley on June 12 from 9 AM to 2 PM. This event is free and open to the public, providing a new opportunity for residents to come together and celebrate all of the nonprofits building a stronger Tompkins County for all.

Giving is Gorges is powered by GiveGab, an Ithaca-based online fundraising platform, with financial sponsorship from Visions Federal Credit Union, and support from The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Finger Lakes Chapter.

New this year, financial sponsor Visions Federal Credit Union will be generously covering all online processing fees to ensure that nonprofits receive 100% of donations.

"Our goal is to provide the greatest positive impact we can. We're overjoyed to support a community that supports us by making sure 100 percent of donations go directly to these local nonprofits," Visions President and CEO Ty Muse said.

In addition, support from local business sponsors is expected to make this years' prize pool available for participating nonprofits the most robust in the history of this local Giving Day.

Last year, Giving is Gorges rallied together 934 donors who contributed over $89,000 to 72 participating nonprofit organizations in just a single day, with more donations coming in after the day was over. In total, Giving is Gorges has raised over $400,000 from its four annual events.

"Ithaca is the best place I have ever lived. Giving is Gorges is a celebration of everything that helped me to fall in love with this town. I am so thrilled for the opportunity to bring our awesome local nonprofits together for a day to celebrate philanthropy in our community and to help our community continue to thrive through nonprofit engagement!" - Verdie Culbreath, Project Manager, Giving is Gorges
