Alicia M. Bocek, DVM
Title: DVM/Owner
Organization: Day Hollow Animal Hospital

"I have been practicing Veterinary Medicine in upstate New York since 2007. In 2022, I achieved my lifelong dream of owning a practice. The journey to ownership was challenging, as I faced many years of self-doubt. As a woman, I questioned whether I could succeed and be effective in this role. My self-doubt likely originated during my undergraduate studies when my Advisor doubted my ability to endure the prolonged schooling required.

Regarding ownership, my husband provided unwavering support and encouraged me for years to pursue this path. Becoming a mother at 40 may have ignited the confidence necessary to take this leap of faith. I realized that if I could handle motherhood, then anything was possible. The timing aligned perfectly when I met Dr. Terry Hills, who was ready to retire and sell his practice. He remained with me and mentored me in Practice Ownership before fully retiring. His guidance was invaluable, and he truly is a remarkable individual.

My goal in practice has always been to empower new female veterinarians to realize their full potential, not only as professionals but as strong, empowered women. Mentoring the future of this profession brings me immense joy. My objective has consistently been to provide the highest standard of care for pets and their families. Consequently, I developed a practice focused on a mix of General Practice and Urgent Care, with a passion for assisting pets in need within this area.

I aspire to inspire future veterinarians by demonstrating that anything is possible. If someone attempts to dissuade you from your dream, continue persevering because, as women, we are capable of achieving anything."
