"I can count on one hand the number of years I lived with my mother and stepfather. My mother struggled with drug addiction, and my father was a functional alcoholic who worked hard to provide for us. Because of my mother’s absence, I took on her maternal responsibilities, caring for my four younger siblings while still a child myself. Recognizing the weight I was carrying, my grandmother took me into her home to offer stability, ensure I could attend school, and give me a chance at a real childhood.
During high school, my siblings and I were placed in foster care. It was there that I discovered a life skills class that gave me the same sense of security and support my grandmother once provided. That space of learning and mentorship became a turning point. After my mother passed away from AIDS, I found guidance from the women around me. Teachers, mentors, and community leaders stepped in and taught me how to advocate for myself and grow into womanhood with resilience and grace.
Those women inspired me to become a woman who empowers others.
I began my career as a youth development specialist, supporting young women as they emancipated from the foster care system. I helped them build life skills, connect to community resources, and secure safe housing. I later became the director of a maternity home, working with young mothers to find stable housing, access prenatal and maternal care, and obtain gainful employment.
It was during this work that I realized the cycle wouldn't break unless we introduced young women to higher-earning career pathways. They needed not just survival tools but real opportunities to build sustainable, independent futures. That realization fueled my vision.
In May 2021, I founded Yes, M.I.S.S. Inc., a college and career readiness nonprofit that empowers young women ages 14 to 21 by exposing them to high-earning careers. We do this through college tours, company site visits, and professional development workshops. Our goal is to help young women not just dream, but plan with purpose and confidence for a future filled with opportunity.
We’ve been fortunate to partner with companies like Visions Federal Credit Union and other Fortune 500 companies that are committed to championing young women’s growth and development. Thanks to dedicated volunteers and community engagement, Yes, M.I.S.S. Inc. has become a recognized name throughout Bergen, Passaic, and Essex counties.
The personal motto I live by is "Treat yo’self, don’t cheat yo’self." It’s a reminder that we deserve good things—not just the bare minimum. Life isn’t only about pushing through or making ends meet. We’re allowed to enjoy ourselves, take up space, and go after more than just survival.
I feel most inspired when I see young women light up as they explore new careers, visit exciting places, and begin building a professional network that supports their dreams. Every time I witness their confidence grow, I know I’m walking in my purpose."
