Cicero, NY – Partnering with Operation Homefront, Visions Federal Credit Union recently distributed free backpacks and school supplies to military families living in the Syracuse, NY area.

This distribution drive was part of Operation Homefront's Back-to-School Brigade, an annual campaign that serves military families nationwide. Through a sponsorship from Visions and additional support from Mirabito Energy Products, Operation Homefront prepared backpacks filled with school supplies for NY-based military-dependent children entering kindergarten through 12th grade. At the drive-thru event on August 24, dozens of families pulled up to the Visions branch in Cicero, NY and received these donated school supplies, along with special gift bags prepared for children who were too young to attend school.

"I felt honored to give back to the families of these men and women who risk their lives," said Branch Manager Sarah Pitcher. "I have family members who served in the military, so this cause is near and dear to my heart."

The same day, Visions presented a check for $21,215 to Operation Homefront. This check donation was the result of an ongoing initiative from Visions' Veterans Program. For every Visions member that selects their patriotic-themed Americana debit card design, Visions donates $5 to Operation Homefront. Since 2018, the Visions Veterans Program has also offered a scholarship opportunity for dependents of veterans, plus a variety of bonuses and fee waivers for veterans and their spouses.

About Operation Homefront
Operation Homefront is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive – not simply struggle to get by – in the communities they have worked so hard to protect. For over fifteen years, they have provided programs that offer: RELIEF (through Critical Financial Assistance and transitional housing programs), RESILIENCY (through permanent housing and caregiver support services) and RECURRING FAMILY SUPPORT programs and services throughout the year that help military families overcome the short-term bumps in the road so they don't become long-term chronic problems. Operation Homefront has consistently earned high ratings from leading charity rating services, including Charity Navigator, which gave OH 4 Stars for 11 consecutive years for superior service and accountability. At Operation Homefront, 92 percent of expenditures go directly toward delivering programs and services to the military families who need it most. Visit operationhomefront.org for more information.
