Syracuse, NY – Visions Federal Credit Union is partnering with Felisha Legette-Jack, head coach of Syracuse Universities’ Women’s Basketball team, with aspirations to bring financial wellness and growth to the Syracuse area – especially for those communities frequently left out of the conversation.

Legette-Jack graduated from Syracuse in 1989, receiving multiple honors and recognitions during her time as a student-athlete. She later received three post-grad Hall of Fame entries and the distinction of Syracuse University’s first female athlete to have her jersey retired to the rafters of the Carrier Dome. Following a storied 30+ year career in uplifting other young female athletes and leading various collegiate teams to championships, in 2022 Legette-Jack returned to coach her alma mater.

“When I was a student-athlete, I never had the wherewithal to know how to invest or even think about finances – my money was either in my pocket, or in a drawer,” says Legette-Jack, elaborating on why she wishes she had a financial resource like Visions growing up. “Now I have players on my team that are in that same boat – that don’t know how to make their money work for them. I think it’s the perfect time for Visions to come and help share that knowledge through Syracuse University, our athletic department, and beyond.”

In partnering with Legette-Jack, Visions will work towards creating a more welcoming environment for introducing money management to young women and girls, who are typically not taught or encouraged to learn about financial wellness the way men are. “A lot of people like to clap for women and girls, while pouring their resources into men, and I’m really humbled that Visions sees young women and girls – sees all of us – and chose us. Visions saw me first, and it means a lot being able to connect with an organization that values people, lifts up community, and wants to make a positive impact.”

Visions shares the sentiment and is eager to work more in depth with Legette-Jack on community outreach events in the Syracuse area and beyond. “Months ago when I attended a Women’s Basketball Fundraising event at Syracuse University, I knew immediately that Coach Legette-Jack would make an exceptional partner,” says Timothy Strong, AVP of Branding & Community Impact. “Her address to the crowd was so impassioned, and energetic – you could feel just how deeply she believed in her team, her mission, and her community. That’s what we here at Visions like to seek out in our partnerships: authenticity, compassion, and drive.”
